Every spring, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary hosts the Great Lakes Regional MATE ROV Competition, bringing students from all over the midwest to northeast Michigan. This year the competition will take place on May 21st at the Alpena County Plaza Pool and Alpena High School.

The competition is a growing success thanks to dedicated sanctuary volunteers. Volunteer roles include mission judge, info booth, team support, and many others.
